An International Experience
By developing each student's individual learning potential and through a philosophy of nurturing open, enquiring minds, ISB equips students with the skills to face today's exciting and exacting challenges, and inspires them to be an active part of whatever tomorrow may bring.
ISB is a not-for-profit English-language co-educational day school for girls and boys from the age of 3 – 19. Approximately 1400 students attend our three-campus school, and ISB families and staff members represent roughly 60 nations. At ISB, the focus is truly on the word "international": the school promotes an environment of intercultural communication with a central mission statement that focuses on an understanding and awareness of different backgrounds, beliefs and ways of life, to the enrichment of the academic and social engagement of all.
ISB is situated just a few minutes from the city of Basel on the edge of the Swiss countryside, surrounded by beautiful views of the Jura hills. The region's excellent public transport, road and rail networks, as well as airports located in both Basel and Zurich, ensure that getting to and from school, or out and about either within Switzerland or around the globe, is a reassuringly comfortable and reliable experience.
Teaching and Learning
ISB is fully accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS) and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). ISB students undertake the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP), Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Diploma Programme (DP). Our graduating students consistently achieve results above the world average, and attend universities and colleges in Switzerland, the UK and the USA, and around the globe. Students learn in well-equipped, light and airy classrooms, including specialist science, technology and arts rooms, and enjoy excellent sporting, recreational and research facilities.
Activity and Community
At school, our students are encouraged to be physically active in many ways. Apart from scheduled PE lessons, many take part in a wide variety of after-school sports and athletics activities. Through membership of both the Swiss Group of International Schools (SGIS) and the Sports Council of International Schools (SCIS), ISB student athletes compete in sporting tournaments with other European schools.
ISB students have ample opportunities to explore and express their energy, commitment and talents in the Arts: throughout the school, and through both scheduled classes and a diverse range of shows, exhibitions, concerts, presentations, plays and performances, student involvement in Music, Visual Arts and Drama is enthusiastically nurtured and regularly celebrated.
Parents are a vital part of the school community. Our several parent groups dedicate time and energy to channelling parent skills and expertise to enhance learning, helping us to make the most of our diverse cultural strengths and welcoming and integrating families into the ISB community.
Finally, ISB has a strong commitment to developing empathetic and sensitive citizens, involved in the local and global communities in which we live. ISB students are encouraged to appreciate Swiss culture and take an enthusiastic part in local clubs, organisations and activities. Through the service component of the IB and through other endeavours, such as the International Award, ISB students actively engage in local and international community projects.
