Whether you are planning to stay in Switzerland for three or for ten years, you do not want your foreign adventure to come at the cost of your child's education. The choice of school is a critical one: while Switzerland may have one of the most highly regarded public school systems in the world, the language barrier, combined with the challenge of adapting to a new environment, can prove too high for children with no previous knowledge of the local language. On the other hand, sending your child to an English-speaking international school means missing out on a great opportunity. After all, immersion in a new language also implies immersion in a new culture and thus access to the local community as well as Swiss customs and practices.
At SIS Swiss International School, English and German play equal roles in the classroom and in day-today school life. Our teachers are native speakers of either German or English, while the student population consists of roughly half local and half international children. Having been trained in diverse learning cultures, SIS teachers can draw on a wealth of methods and techniques to address different types of learners. Familiar approaches are enriched by new concepts, and the children find themselves in a varied and stimulating learning environment with classmates from all over the world. Moreover, the repeatedly high results of SIS students in international benchmarking tests bear witness to the academic benefits of a bilingual education. Upon graduation from SIS, our students are at home in two languages and well prepared to meet the challenges of today's globalised world confidently and with an open mind – the sky is the limit.
