Traditional Christmas markets
Craft artists from Bern and the surrounding region display their unique wares in a scenic Christmas market on the Münsterplatz. On the Waisenhausplatz, you can find a wide range of traditional goods and souvenirs. These two Christmas markets lure many visitors and locals who are enchanted by the wintry atmosphere in this UNESCO World Heritage Site of the old city. You can warm up at the Märitbeizli Platzhirsch, where you are invited to linger and sip on mulled wine.
Fondue at the Grosse Schanze
Go experience the atmosphere of the cozy fondue hut on the Grossen Schanze, where gourmets meet to experience the magic of winter with the traditional Swiss dish. Visitors can also experience another wintery highlight from December 21st on the Bundesplatz. There, an ice rink is placed with this year's most beautiful Bernese backdrop.
Enjoy a sleigh ride down the Gurten hill
Want to head outdoors? A very special experience is the sleigh ride down the Gurten. When the snow conditions are good, there are 60 solid Davos sleighs available for a trip down Bern's house mountain. This activity also offers the chance to enjoy sunshine, even when there is fog in the valley.
