Post Offices in Bern Switzerland's postal system

Swiss Post offers a variety of services in addition to general postal services, including accounts payment, mail forwarding and retention. Branches are widely distributed but opening hours vary.

Postal services in Switzerland

Switzerland is proud of its postal system, which is efficient and reliable.

Apart from postal services, the Swiss Post offers a comprehensive range of payment services. Accounts can be paid online or at counters using the payment slip sent with invoices.

Post office locations and opening hours in Bern

Post office opening hours in Switzerland vary but are generally Monday to Friday 8.30-12.00 and 13.30-18.30 and Saturdays 8.30-12.00. The main post office in Bern at Effingerstrasse has longer hours: Monday to Friday 9.00 to 21.00, Saturday 9.00 to 16.00 and Sunday from 16.00 to 21.00. There is also a post office in the very centre of Bern Bärenplatz 8 (close to the Federal Parliament Building). Their hours are: Monday to Friday 7.30 to 18.30; Saturday 7.30 to 10.00.

Mail delivery

Mail will be delivered on the next day with A post or within two to three working days with B post. The Swiss Post provides detailed information on options and prices. If you receive a parcel that is too large for your mailbox, they will leave a yellow slip telling you the address to pick it up.

Change of address

To get mail forwarded to a new address, inform your local post office of your address change. The forwarding fee varies according to payment method and place of relocation.

Temporary change of address and mail delivery hold

The post office will forward mail to a temporary address or retain it at the post office to forward on your return.

Unsolicited merchandise

There is no legal obligation to either return or keep unsolicited merchandise. If goods were obviously sent in error, the recipient is obliged to inform the sender.

Avoiding junk mail

To avoid junk mail, official labels for letterboxes requesting no advertising are available. For German, register online with Briefkastenkleber, and for French and Italian at stop-pub.

I have been with Packimpex for 10 years and every single day is interesting and challenging. I am proud and grateful to be a member of a professional and highly motivated team. Although born and raised in the Canton of Bern, as a young adult I spent longer periods of time in New York and Brussels. I have a degree in economics and business administration and also a teaching diploma for German and English as second languages. I live in the city of Bern and what I enjoy most is swimming in the river Aare. One swim from Muri-Auguetbrücke down to Bern-Dählhölzli (this takes about 30 minutes) equals 3 days wellness, and this is not an exaggeration.
