Apart from postal services, the Swiss Post offers a comprehensive range of payment services. Accounts can be paid online or at counters using the payment slip sent with invoices.
Post office locations and opening hours in Bern
Post office opening hours in Switzerland vary but are generally Monday to Friday 8.30-12.00 and 13.30-18.30 and Saturdays 8.30-12.00. The main post office in Bern at Effingerstrasse has longer hours: Monday to Friday 9.00 to 21.00, Saturday 9.00 to 16.00 and Sunday from 16.00 to 21.00. There is also a post office in the very centre of Bern Bärenplatz 8 (close to the Federal Parliament Building). Their hours are: Monday to Friday 7.30 to 18.30; Saturday 7.30 to 10.00.
Mail will be delivered on the next day with A post or within two to three working days with B post. The Swiss Post provides detailed information on options and prices. If you receive a parcel that is too large for your mailbox, they will leave a yellow slip telling you the address to pick it up.
Change of address
To get mail forwarded to a new address, inform your local post office of your address change. The forwarding fee varies according to payment method and place of relocation.
Temporary change of address and mail delivery hold
The post office will forward mail to a temporary address or retain it at the post office to forward on your return.
There is no legal obligation to either return or keep unsolicited merchandise. If goods were obviously sent in error, the recipient is obliged to inform the sender.
