Post Offices in Lausanne Switzerland's postal system

Swiss Post offers a variety of services in addition to general postal services, including accounts payment, mail forwarding and retention. Branches are widely distributed but opening hours vary.

Postal services in Switzerland

Switzerland is proud of its postal system, which is efficient and reliable.

Apart from postal services, the Swiss Post offers a comprehensive range of payment services. Accounts can be paid online or at counters using the payment slip sent with invoices.

Post office locations and opening hours in Lausanne

Post office opening hours in Switzerland vary but are generally Monday to Friday 8.30 to 12.00 / 13.30 to 18.30 and Saturday 8.30 to 12.00.

The main post office in Lausanne has longer hours: Monday to Friday 8.00 to 20.00 and Saturday 8.00 to 16.00.

The only post office in Lausanne that is open on Sunday is located at the main train station. Use the entrance on Avenue de la Gare. It is open on Sundays from 16.00 to 19.00.

Mail delivery

Mail will be delivered on the next day with A post or within two to three working days with B post. The Swiss Post provides detailed information on options and prices. If you receive a parcel that is too large for your mailbox, they will leave a yellow slip telling you the address to pick it up.

Change of address

To get mail forwarded to a new address, inform your local post office of your address change. The forwarding fee varies according to payment method and place of relocation.

Temporary change of address and mail delivery hold

The post office will forward mail to a temporary address or retain it at the post office to forward on your return.

Unsolicited merchandise

There is no legal obligation to either return or keep unsolicited merchandise. If goods were obviously sent in error, the recipient is obliged to inform the sender.

Avoiding junk mail

To avoid junk mail, official labels for letterboxes requesting no advertising are available. For German, register online with Briefkastenkleber, and for French and Italian at stop-pub.

I want to add a little more specific info about the Sunday post office opening times in Lausanne. Only one post office is open on a Sunday and this is not the main post office opposite Place Francois, but the one situated right by Lausanne Gare, on Avenue de la Gare. There are two entrances. The one on the same level as the station will be shut, don't give up - you need to walk up and on to Avenue de la Gare to find the correct entrance that will be open on Sundays from 16.00 - 19.00.
