When legendary tour operator Sir Henry Lunn arrived in Adelboden to lead the first organized ski-tourism group to visit Switzerland in 1903, the hotel "The Cambrian" – then known as the Grand Hotel Regina – was already the premier address in the village. Since 2007, the hotel has been owned by the Welsh entrepreneur, Grant Maunder, and some fellow investors. "The Cambrian" is a perfect mix of Swiss service and Welsh whit. A home away from home!
Nestled in an ancient glacial valley of Adelboden, the home of "The Cambrian" is a traditional Swiss alpine village offering a variety of experiences. From luxury spas and fine dining restaurants to paragliding over snowy mountains, our village is ideal for anything from a romantic getaway to a thrill seeking adventure.
With over 210km of multi-level piste and many hiking and tobogganing routes, Adelboden accommodates most snow sports and activities, and because of our caring and friendly local residence you'll never struggle to find your way around.
While a hundred years ago the rosy-cheeked guests mainly came for skiing, Adelboden has much more to offer nowadays. Our varied activities include the thrill of World Cup Giant Slalom, strapping on your own skis for an (albeit more relaxed) ride, building an igloo, daring to ice climb our 600 m frozen waterfall, drinking Glühwein (mulled wine) with a few local characters, unforgettable forest and mountain walking trails, enjoying cheese fondue in the frozen igloo restaurant, tobogganing, snow shoe hiking, cross-country skiing, paragliding and more.
However, spending time outside is not the only thing that makes your trip unforgettable. Relaxing in our beautiful spa area — with indoor and outdoor pools, sauna, steam bath and relaxation area — is sure to ease those tired muscles. Adelboden also offers a range of indoor activities for those unfriendly weather days, climbing, bowling, ice skating and curling are available at our local sports hall, just a five minute walk form the hotel, cinema, cultural museums and traditional handmade craft shops. You may never want to leave this place.
