Things to do for families in Geneva 

Geneva is a haven for families. It is small and beautiful and has excellent, well-maintained public facilities. Geneva's natural and cultural resources offer a wealth of activities within easy reach for families with children of all ages. France is just over the border and also a great option for family getaways. Music festivals, which previously catered to adults, now offer early evening programmes for families.

Outdoor family activities in Geneva 

Geneva's numerous parks and playgrounds have barbecue facilities which are open to the general public and by the lake. The Lake of Geneva is a summer oasis in the centre of town. Croque loisirs (FR) offers great ideas for family activities around Geneva. Les Aigles du Leman (FR) is a birthday party venue with interactive animal shows.  

Great parks around Geneva to bring kids to:

  • The Boir de la Batie has a big playground, a paddling pool and a free mini-zoo. 
  • Parc des Bastions is located right in the city centre and is accented by giant outdoor chess sets.
  • The Botanical Gardens are filled with birds, animals and picturesque gardens.
  • Quiet, Parc Bertrand (FR), located in the Champel district. 
  • Parc de la Grange is a garden of about 12,000 square metres. 
  • The rose garden, known as Signal de Bougy (FR), has over 200 rose varieties and is the perfect place for a summer barbecue. 

Rainy day activities with children in Geneva

The Natural history museum (FR) is a great place to let kids explore. It is free and it is open on Sundays, which is unheard of in Switzerland!  Look out for Geneva Amateur Operatic Society productions. Visit the Cailler factory to see how their chocolate is made and to enjoy some samples.

Babies and small children

Baby gyms, music workshops are available in Geneva. There are also ‘bébé-nageurs' (FR) to get babies used to water.   • Check with SBB/CFF for special discounts and family tickets. SBB/CFF trains also sometimes have family carriages.
