There's a reason they call it the Lucerne Riviera
Nestled in the heart of Switzerland, between Lake Lucerne and the foot of the Rigi mountain are the two idyllic resorts of Weggis and Vitznau. These stunning holiday destinations lie in what is often called the Lucerne Riviera, a stretch of lakeside that radiates a Mediterranean ambience.
The mild climate allows southern-living plants such as palms, orchids and sweet chestnuts to grow on the shores of Lake Lucerne. American writer Mark Twain found the village of Weggis a source of fascination, enthusiastically calling it "the most charming place I have ever lived in!"
A 45-minute boat ride separates Lucerne from the Weggis Vitznau Rigi holiday region: graceful vintage paddle steamers and elegant saloon motor vessels make regular calls at Weggis and Vitznau as they ply Lake Lucerne. In other words, these are the perfect destinations for getting a breath of fresh spring air in the warming sun amid a spectacular mountainscape.

The atmosphere between the lake and the mountain is as seductive, welcoming and varied as the local cuisine. Between them, the excellent restaurants in Weggis, Vitznau and on the Rigi boast 106 Gault&Millau points and five Michelin stars.
