The old city
There are two parallel streets which cross the area of the old city. One is the Cité-Derrière (city behind) and the other is Cité-Devant (city in front). The city was built essentially on three hillsides: Cité-Derrière being the outermost point, and Cité-Devant the point at which it opened out onto the rest of the town. There is also a nice view of the cathedral, which was built in the 13th century. The cathedral overlooks Lausanne to the Lake of Geneva. (which is also known to the Swiss as Lac Leman).
