The southern part of Lausanne on the lakeshore is an expanse of light and water. The old steamboats navigating between France and Switzerland are reminders of the 19th century. In 1995 the city constructed the large concourse, separated from the road by a large basin, marking the former lakeshore. It has become a favourite promenade for the citizens of Lausanne. A Sunday afternoon stroll through Ouchy’s lakefront market and along the avenue lined with restaurants gives one the feeling of being on holiday.
