Discover Crans Montana The ski resort has much to offer!

Hello Switzerland correspondent Michael Gfeller had a chance to get the inside view of Crans Montana, the beautiful well-known ski resort in the Valais. He reports back.

Crans Montana has a reputation for being spoiled by the sun, but this trip did not live up to the reputation! The exciting first snow of the year brought some activities to a halt, but it also opened up the opportunity to discover many others interesting things to do.

The ski resort of Crans Montana attracts visitors interested in all kinds of winter sports. There are 140km of slopes for all levels of skiers and snowboarders that lead up to the glacier Plaine-Morte, which is about 3000 metres above sea level. If you need an even bigger adrenaline rush, visit the huge Snowpark, which has a 140m halfpipe, rails, and jumps of different shapes and sizes.

The new attraction of this year's season is the brand new chairlift Cabane de Bois. It seats 6 people and has a new boarding system that makes the lift easier to access, especially for beginners.

Although the Valais is often very sunny, there are also options for those days when the weather is less inviting.

In the town of Lens, located next to Crans Montana, is the Foundation Pierre Arnaud, which opened its art centre in 2013. The winter exhibitions highlight the major movements of painting that made their mark on art history between 1800 and 1950.

The current exhibition: Realism - A symphony of Opposites, brings together the interpretations and realization of the most formative artists of this genre, including Gustave Courbet, Ernest Biéler, Albert Chavaz, Rudolf Schlichter, Mario Sironi, Gustave Jeanneret and André Derain. Even I, a young person who is not generally overly enthusiastic about art exhibitions, found it fascinating to discover the abundance of details in the paintings. The exhibition runs until the 19 April 2015.

The foundation also houses the restaurant l'Indigo. In addition to serving outstanding cuisine (in the Gault Millau restaurant guide it received a score of 14/20), the premises offer a beautiful view of the alps and the little lake in front of the building.

The hotel offers spacious and comfortable rooms with an amazing view of the mountains. Especially for sports enthusiasts the Crans Ambassador offers numerous possibilities. In winter, in the hotel's Sport Boutique, you can rent complete skiing equipment. In Summer, golf is the resort sport of choice. Or how about a workout in the modern fitness center followed by a massage and relaxing time in the SPA?

For this year's edition the music festival is more focused than it has been in the past. It will be 4 days long, showcasing electro and urban music from an international star-studded line-up. The concerts now take place in a big tent in the Moubra Tennis Center in the heart of the village.
